A RemoteOK alternative for engineers who keep hitting “US only”
RemoteOK is not one of the boards that pretends Europe does not exist. It has a Europe region filter, and a country list that runs to Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Poland and Spain. So if you are here after a run of rejections, the useful question is not whether RemoteOK has a filter. It is where the filter gets its answer.
Where a RemoteOK listing comes from
The first line on the RemoteOK homepage is addressed to employers, not to you: “Post a job to reach 11,900,000+ remote workers on the #1 Remote Job Platform.” That is the business. Its help centre is mostly the paperwork that follows — how to post a job, how to change the company name or VAT number on a job post invoice, what happens when a post auto-renews, how to use a bundle code.
So a RemoteOK listing exists because a company bought a slot and filled in a form. The region attached to it is the region that company picked in that form. That is not a criticism of RemoteOK — it is how a paid job board has to work — but it does mean the Europe tag is an employer's summary of the role, not a reading of what the job posting says about who may hold it.
Worth knowing before you assume it is free on your side: RemoteOK also runs a paid job-seeker tier. Its help centre carries both “What's included in Remote OK Premium for job seekers?” and “How do I cancel my Remote OK Premium subscription?”

| What is being compared | RemoteOK | Hirelihood |
|---|---|---|
| Who is it for? | Everyone working remotely, in every function — developer, design, sales, support, marketing, ops, finance, medical, education. | Engineers in Europe looking for remote roles they are actually eligible for. |
| What does it cost you? | Free to browse. There is also a paid job-seeker tier, Remote OK Premium, with its own subscription and cancellation flow.Source: https://remoteok.com/faq, accessed 2026-08-06 | Free to browse and to use every tool. €69 for 90 days unlocks the full product. |
| Where do the listings come from? | Employers buy a post. “Post a job to reach 11,900,000+ remote workers on the #1 Remote Job Platform” is the homepage headline. | Sourced direct from company career pages, including roles the company never posted to a board. |
| How is a role marked as open to Europe? | A region filter — Worldwide, North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Oceania — set on the post the employer bought. | By reading the eligibility the posting states: countries, timezone bands, work-authorisation requirements. |
| Does it say anything about your odds? | No. Listings are the product; there is no per-candidate signal. | Scores how likely you are to get an interview at that company, from your profile and the posting. |
| Can you take the data with you? | Yes — the help centre documents an API and an RSS/JSON feed of remote jobs.Source: https://remoteok.com/faq, accessed 2026-08-06 | No public feed. The product is the filtering and the scoring, not the raw list. |
When RemoteOK is the better tool
If you are not an engineer, use RemoteOK. We only cover engineering, and it covers support, marketing, ops, finance and a dozen other functions that we will never touch.
It is also the better starting point when you want volume, or when you want to work with the data yourself. A documented JSON feed is a genuinely useful thing that we do not offer, and companies that pay to post on a worldwide board are often worldwide-first in how they hire — which is exactly the kind of employer worth finding.
The gap this leaves
The rejections that sting are not the ones from jobs tagged North America. They are the ones from a role tagged Worldwide, or tagged Europe, whose posting turns out to require US work authorisation four paragraphs in. No tag survives contact with that, because the tag and the requirement were written by different people at different times.
We read the posting on the company's own careers page and take the eligibility from the text. A role that says it needs US authorisation does not enter the feed, whatever it is tagged. That is the entire difference, and it is worth being clear that it is a difference of method rather than of scale — RemoteOK carries far more jobs than we do.
