Why “remote” so often means US-only
Most job boards treat “remote” as a single checkbox. A company hiring only in the United States ticks the same box as one hiring anywhere in the EU, so both land in the same search results. The restriction is usually written in the posting — buried in a line like “must be authorised to work in the US” — but the filter never reads it, because the filter only sees the checkbox.
That is why searching “remote developer jobs” from Berlin or Lisbon returns page after page you are not eligible for, and why you only find out after writing a cover letter.
We read the posting instead of the checkbox. Every listing is collected direct from a company career page, and the stated location eligibility — countries, timezone bands, work-authorisation requirements — is parsed out of the text. Roles restricted to the US, and roles that require office attendance, are excluded from this page entirely.
